Addis Ababa University (AAU) hosted its first-ever university-wide alumni reunion on October 12, 2024, bringing together an inter-generational group of distinguished alumni, including the Ethiopia's President Taye Atsike Selassie, chancellor, ministers, civic and business leaders, prominent scholars, and other notable figures from different walks of life.
In his remarks, President Taye Atsike Selassie highlighted AAU’s pivotal role in Ethiopian higher education and its national and continental standing as a premier academic institution. He noted that AAU graduates have achieved national and international acclaim as scientists, researchers, and esteemed professors. He encouraged alumni to continue contributing to AAU’s stature and national impact as Ethiopia’s flagship university.
AAU President Dr. Samuel Kifle expressed the university’s pride in its alumni community, celebrating the reunion as a historic event following AAU’s recent designation as Ethiopia’s first autonomous public university. He underscored the university’s high regard for its alumni, inviting them to remain engaged and supportive members of the alumni network.
Dr. Samuel emphasized that this inaugural reunion marks a key step in reconnecting with alumni, aiming to foster academic excellence and community engagement aligned with AAU’s renewed mission.
